Venue decided on

The quote was very good and we felt we were getting so much for the price that we've decided to go for it!

So... we are pleased to announce that our wedding breakfast will be held at Goldbrick House which is officially the 25th best champagne bar-cum-restaurant in the world!

We just need to confirm the date with them.

Reception venue

So we've been to see the reception/wedding breakfast venue and we're really impressed with it. The private rooms we're looking at hiring are light and airy and really well decorated; a lovely setting for a nice wedding breakfast.

The people are really nice, helpful and very accommodating so we think that we could have a really memorable first meal as a married couple there. We'd have access to our very own terrace so hopefully the weather is good!

We've asked them for a quote so fingers crossed it's a good one!

Wedding Breakfast

We're off to see a great place (hopefully) for our wedding breakfast this weekend. Daniel has eaten there before with work and thinks the food is good (it must be if Daniel likes it!!). We've both also been there for a few cocktails in their Champagne bar and it is a really nicely decorated building so we're confident it will tick all of the right boxes.

Ceremony location

We've decided that we are going to go for a ceremony at the registry office because

  • It is as cheap as chips (if chips cost £80)
  • It's in a nice building with great rooms
  • It saves us £600+ to go towards the wedding breakfast

Weddings are expensive!

Weddings are expensive!

Renting out a room for the ceremony is £300+ and then the cost of the registrar is around £350 and that is just for a 30-45 minute ceremony.

We're thinking of having a weekday wedding now as the cost of ceremonial rooms just go up and up at weekends. Hopefully if we give you all plenty of notice a weekday wedding won't be too much trouble.

With most quotes before food, drink, flowers, clothing, transport and entertainment being around £1200 for a short non-religious ceremony on a weekday it's no wonder the UK wedding industry is worth £5.5b a year!

Venues

There are a lot of places to get married in Bristol!

We've whittled it down to either doing a package wedding at a nice country pub we used to eat in a lot when we lived in Timsbury/High Littleton, a ceremony & reception at one of the very beautiful University of Bristol buildings or a simple ceremony at the registry office and a nice wedding breakfast at a quality restaurant.

We'll let you know as soon as we've made a final decision.

Dates

We've started to look into dates. We ideally want a wedding in a warm month that won't cost the Earth and that leaves us with March/April or September so we've plumped for September as March/April wouldn't give us much time to plan.

It's a start

So we've officially started to plan the wedding and so far we have got as far as Googling "weddings on a budget".

It's not much but it's a start!
